Severe weather possible Sunday

Severe weather, including isolated tornadoes, is possible overnight Saturday into Sunday afternoon.
“The greatest threat for severe weather will probably be between 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday,” said meteorologist Holly Allen with the Birmingham National Weather Service.
Threats include damaging straight-line winds, heavy rain and isolated tornadoes.
“There is a storm system moving out of the plains right now and hitting the warm Gulf air so there is going to be a warm, unstable air mass,” Allen said. “We are expecting warm air to make its way just south of Interstate 20.”
The greatest chance of severe weather will be south of U.S. 80, roughly from Demopolis to Selma to Montgomery to Opelika.
Allen encouraged residents to remain weather aware over the weekend, even though Saturday looks dry and the storms will most likely not last all day. The forecast will be fine-tuned as Sunday gets closer.
“Right now we are giving a broad time frame with the uncertainties of how this system is going to develop,” Allen said.
November and December are considered “secondary” months for severe weather. It’s not unusual to see tornadoes this time of year.
After the storms on Sunday, Monday’s forecast includes plenty of sunshine during the day with highs in the mid-60s.
A cold front comes through Tuesday and Wednesday with cooler air and highs in the 50s and overnight lows around freezing.
