Christmas is in the air, and the Selma-Dallas County Library is gearing up for an exciting holiday season.
The library is hosting a craft and story fun holly jolly event Dec. 1, 8, and 15 and a Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer puppet fun show Dec. 2, 9, and 16 all beginning at 9:30 a.m.
“We have over 175 kids booked in for December to see Rudolph and make fun crafts,” said Becky Nichols, library director.
This year marks the 75th anniversary of Rudolph, and Nichols sad she is looking forward to an exciting year with the kids as they get to experience the puppet show first hand.
“Christmas is one of our favorite times of the year at the library because so many kids come and are so excited over the season. For us, it’s another way of bringing stories to life,” Nichols said.
During the craft and story events, children will have the opportunity to hear Jan Parker read Christmas stories, sing carols and even make their own ornament.
“Ms. Jan is going to read three Christmas stories, and they’re going to sing Christmas carols, and they’re going to make an angel with glitter and markers,” Nichols said.
Nichols said she always enjoys this time of year and having all of the children come to the library and get involved.
“It’s a great way to bring the community together and fellowship at this great time,” Nichols said. “For us it’s a really great opportunity to get children excited about the joy of Christmas books.”
During the holiday season, many new children are exposed to the library and what they have to offer.
“I am so excited because we have children in December that we do not have any other time of the year. The library is a wonderful place to come and enjoy the program and take home Christmas books,” Nichols said. “We have over 200 Christmas books lining the shelves right now, waiting to go home with kids and enjoy them with grownups.”
