A Selma man is behind bars after allegedly shooting a Selma female in her 20s Wednesday night, according to the Selma Police Department.
The 39-year-old suspect, Napoleon Neely Jr., was arrested and charged with one count of first-degree assault and one count of discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle. He was placed in Dallas County Jail without bond.
While investigating another call, officers and detectives heard shots fired in the area of the 1400 block of Washington Street. They found a Selma female in her 20s who had been shot in the right shoulder while a passenger of a vehicle.
The woman was taken to Vaughan Regional Medical Center’s emergency room in a private vehicle, where she was admitted in serious condition for additional treatment, according to Selma police.
Selma detectives learned Neely might be involved in the shooting and he was arrested later Wednesday night, according to Lt. Johnny King with the Selma Police Department.
“The preliminary investigation revealed that the incident stemmed from a previous altercation between the victim of the shooting and the Napoleon Neely Jr.’s friends,” King said. “More arrests are possible.”
Neely appeared for a bond hearing at the Dallas County Courthouse, where District Judge Bob Armstrong issued him a $250,000 bond, but Armstrong also revoked a $30,000 bond issued to Neely last year.
The suspect was charged with second-degree assault following a domestic violence incident that occurred on June 8, 2013.
Both of Neely’s recent charges are considered Class B felonies. If convicted, Neely will receive no less than two years and no more than 20 years in state prison.
