A Perry County woman has been convicted of attempted murder of a state trooper.

Janice Green, who also goes by Janice Ford or Janice Billingsley, was found guilty Friday. Green, 47, is of Marion.

The Alabama Attorney General’s Criminal Trials Division prosecuted the case and presented evidence showing Green fired a shot from a high-powered, scoped bolt-action rifle at a trooper who had come to her house to serve a search warrant.

The search warrant came after allegations Green was involved in a plan to kill a circuit court judge and special agent of the Attorney General’s Office.

“Anyone who threatens or attempts to harm a law enforcement officer must face a severe penalty. I am pleased that this defendant has been convicted and will serve a minimum of 20 years in prison for her crime,” said Attorney General Strange. “Law enforcement officers put their lives on the line to protect their fellow citizens, as did the state troopers who served the warrant upon this woman.”

Green and her mother, Marie Billingsley, each were charged regarding separate plots to kill the judge and special agent. Billingsley has already pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit assault. Green was found not guilty of those charges after the Attorney General’s Office said a witness changed his testimony.

Green will be sentenced on the attempted murder conviction in mid-January. Attempted murder is a class A felony, which carries a sentence of 10 years to life in prison.

However, due to Green’s use of a firearm, a sentence of at least 20 years in mandatory.

Green will also face an additional eight years following completion of her state sentence due to the fact that it was illegal for her to possession a firearm because of a prior conviction.

Green is currently incarcerated in the Perry County Jail.
