Rezoning has the potential to upset some while exciting others. Because the action can cause issues, the Selma Planning Board made the right decision to seriously consider the concerns of those worried about the rezoning of nine acres of land near the city marina.
For the past month, residents have spoken out about how following through with the proposal may lead to an issue of increased traffic flow in the area and how the M-1 zoning would allow for multi-family housing to be built, such as apartments, condominum or low-rent housing.
Though, an agreement between James McNeil, an attorney representing the concerned residents, and John Pilcher, an attorney representing the landowners, placed restrictions that won’t allow for landowners to create a multi-family housing on the nine acres.
Everyone involved may not have agreed with the board’s vote to approve the rezoning, but at least the public was given a fair chance to discuss the proposal.
