The Old Depot Museum in downtown Selma is offering residents a glimpse into the past with a collection of historic photographs taken in and around Selma. The museum is planning an art show that will showcase prints from Billy Rosenberg’s negatives. The show will be held Thursday, Jan. 29 at 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Old Depot Museum as a fundraiser for the museum.
“The Old Depot has a lot of old negatives and photographs from a long time Selma native named Billy Rosenberg,” said Manera Searcy, who is coordinating the art show. “Just some fabulous photos of days gone by.”
Over the years, the museum has sold reprints from Rosenberg’s set.
“We print some of these negatives for display, and people can order reprints of them at the show,” Searcy said. “It’s fun to look at the old photographs and see who recognizes what.”
The show has not been previously held at the Depot, so Searcy is excited for the chance to do just that. The Depot has recently undergone renovations, and she said this is an excellent way to get the public in to see the new look.
“This is the first time that we’ve held the show at the museum itself,” Searcy said. “This is a chance for us to show it off. [The Old Depot] is just a treasure for Selma. There’s a lot of information there at the museum.”
Searcy said she is excited about the event, and she hopes for a great turnout. Along with the photographs, the museum will be auctioning off an oil painting from the local artist Cindy Stoudenmire.
“She has done a rendition of the old façade of Selma High School,” Searcy said.
Admission for the art show is $20, and tickets can be bought in advance at the Depot or at the door.
