After some big wins during the holiday season, the Keith Bears are ranked No. 1 in class 1A in the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s boys’ basketball rankings released Thursday.
The Bears (11-8) upset previous No. 1 Sunshine in December to lay claim to the top spot. Sunshine (9-2) fell to No. 2 in the class 1A poll.
The Keith boys aren’t the only team in Orrville getting recognition in the polls. Keith’s Lady Bears (12-5) are ranked No. 7 in the class 1A poll — just behind No. 3 Loachapoka (9-3) and No. 5 Sunshine (5-3), who handed them two of their five losses this season.
The Selma Lady Saints (14-5) also made their first appearance in the poll. Selma moved into the No. 10 spot in class 6A. The Selma boys (15-5) and Dallas County (13-5) also received nominations to be ranked, but missed the cut.
