PLANTERSVILLE — Dallas County closed Thursday’s first half against Wilcox Central with some of its best basketball of the season, but it wasn’t enough for the Lady Hornets in a 65-27 loss.
Dallas County (1-13) finished the second quarter on an 11-0 run to pull within 31-20 at the break, but Wilcox rekindled the consistency they had in a fast start that saw the Lady Jaguars lead 31-9 midway through the second period.
“That was probably the best first half we’ve played all season,” Dallas County coach Charles Thompson said.
“Hopefully that gives us a little hope — even though we lost I’m proud of the way we played. I saw some progression and that’s the most important thing.”
The Jaguars pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Hornets 29-7 in the third quarter.
Arecia Simpson led the Hornets with 13 points, including two three-pointers. A running clock was used in the fourth quarter.
