The college will host its third annual Civil Rights Symposium on March 1-8. All events, which are free, will take place on Concordia’s campus.

Concordia’s choir will kick off the first day of the event with a gospel concert at Wright Auditorium. The final day of the symposium will end with a march from the college to downtown Selma.

Concordia’s public relations director Abby Campbell said CCA chose to produce a week-long symposium because of the significance of the 50th anniversary of the Bloody Sunday and the Selma to Montgomery March. She also said Concordia wanted to add events that will happen before Jubilee weekend.

“We wanted to have something for people to do, before the days of the Jubilee,” Campbell said.

One of the many events participants might enjoy is the “Recollections of ’65” event, where former students of Alabama Lutheran Academy, which is now Concordia College, recall their experiences.

“We have the president coming to Selma, we just want to focus on civil rights and how Selma can come together and focus on civil rights issues that are still happening today,” Campbell said.
