Senator to make annual stop in Selma

U.S. Sen. Richard Shelby makes a stop to every Alabama county each year, and his trip to Selma is now less than 10 days away.
The Selma-Dallas County Chamber of Commerce is offering a chance to have lunch with the senators Monday, Feb. 16 at noon.
The lunch will be held at the Larry D. Stripin Jr. Performing Arts Center, which is located at 1000 Selma Ave.
The lunch will cost $15 and will give those in the community a chance to listen to Shelby speak and interact with him during a question-and-answer session.
Shelby was first elected to the Senate in 1986 and he is currently the Chairman of the United States Senate Committee on Appropriations, which oversees all discretionary spending legislation in the Senate. Through the years, Shelby has served on countless other committees and through his experiences in Washington D.C. will probably have a lot to share with those present for the lunch.
Shelby’s visit is an opportunity for those in the Selma community to get any concerns off their chest or get clarification on matters in Congress. However, it’s also a chance to listen to a man with that served in the Alabama Senate in 1970 and has been a member of the United States Senate for nearly 30 years.
We’re sure Shelby will share thoughts on some of Alabama’s issues and will also talk about some of the progress being made around the state, as well as in Selma.
