Cheer them on

High School basketball season is winding down, but five teams in Selma are still very much in the running for a state championship.
Girls teams from Keith and Selma High School will play in Montgomery Thursday and Friday in the central regional of the AHSAA playoffs. Dallas County’s boys will play Monday. Each of those teams are only four wins away from a state championship.
Meadowview Christian’s girls will take part in an ACAA sub-regional game Thursday in Columbus, Miss. and the Trojans’ boys are already qualified for next week’s state championship tournament in Oxford.
Selma has always been able to boast that it has some of the state’s best basketball teams, and this year is no different, but now is when the teams need as much local support as they can get.
Last year during Dallas County’s 4A state championship run, the Hornets had fans follow them to Montgomery and Birmingham to pack the stands.
We hope all of the teams still playing have the same following this year, as teams from Selma have a chance to bring back another state championship to our basketball rich area.
We commend the teams on a great season and wish them the best of luck the rest of the way.
