Temple Mishkan Israel in Selma is inviting the public out to a special Friday night Sabbath Service to be held March 6 at 7 p.m.

Although the temple usually does not hold service except for Holy Days, the congregation decided to come together for the special service, and they are hoping to have some visitors as well.

“Our little local congregation always enjoys getting together and having a sabbath service, and we always enjoy having our friends from the community come,” said Ronnie Leet, president of the Jewish community.

At the Sabbath Service, a special surprise will take place. Unlike normal services, there will be a musical performance.

“We are going to have a little bit of music which is rare for us,” Leet said. “Hannah Berger will be playing the flute and Sally Jordan will be there playing her harp.”

At the conclusion of the service, an Oneg will take place — a breaking of the bread and fellowship.

“After the service is over we enjoy breaking bread with everybody and enjoying a little social time,” Leet said.

Leet said he is looking forward to the service and he is hoping to have a good turnout.

“The public is always welcome to any of our services,” Leet said. “We certainly enjoy having people come to our services.”
