Letter thanks everyone for wonderful weekend

Dear editor,
I wanted to thank the people of Selma and all the organizations involved in putting together the events to mark the 50th Anniversary of Bloody Sunday.
It was one of the most important events I have ever attended. I stood one hundred feet from the stage to watch Congressman John Lewis introduce President Barack Obama at the foot of the Edmund Pettus Bridge with several white Alabama State Troopers standing close by the stage, as part of the security detail.
I was in Vietnam (101st Airborne) when Dr. King was assassinated (1968) so I felt the history in Selma over the weekend.
My first five “visits” to Alabama were by parachute (Ft Benning Jump School) but this time I walked across the bridge on Saturday and Sunday and will treasure those walks forever.
Thank you,
Bob Mulholland
