Morgan Academy will have a new headmaster beginning Monday morning.
Pete Williamson, a familiar face to many at Morgan, will be leading the school, a job he’s excited to begin.
With 50 years experience in education, Williamson retired from Wallace Community College Selma last May, but he soon realized that retirement was not for him.
After talking with parents and students at his church, he decided to take on the role of basketball coach at Morgan, allowing him an opportunity to get to know Morgan students, parents and teachers.
“I retired last May, and, then after about a month, I decided retirement was not for me,” Williamson said. “I accepted the junior varsity girls basketball coaching job here at Morgan, and I started August 15. Then over the next three or four months I fell in love with the students.”
Williamson began teaching a physical education class in the afternoon and coaching after school, but he was around much more than that.
“I see so much potential that we have here and the basketball players that I had,” Williamson said.
Williamson said he believes the Lord led him to be where he is.
“I just feel like the Lord has put me here for a reason. I’ve been in education all my life,” Williamson said. “I just look for us to provide for the students that we have — the best education possible in all areas.”
According to Williamson, education is always key, and he plans to make sure Morgan students receive a top-knotch education.
“Our parents are paying for our children to receive a good education, and that’s what I’m looking for,” he said. “Academics are first with me and then extracurricular activities.”
When the announcement was made that Williamson would be headmaster, he received a standing ovation from students and faculty. He said people have been giving him good feedback, and everyone seems excited.
“The reaction that I’ve received from the teachers and the staff and the students [is great],” Williamson said. “It’s just been real good. I’m glad to be here.”
