Woman shot Saturday succumbs to injuries

A woman shot Saturday night while standing outside a lounge on Marie Foster Street has died from her injuries.

District Attorney Michael Jackson confirmed late Tuesday night that Taffine Berry died from her injuries. No additional information was available.

At approximately 11:24 p.m., Selma Police Department officers responded to Vaughan Regional Medical Center’s emergency room in reference to two gunshot victims.

They found a 37-year-old woman with injuries to her neck and upper torso and a 41-year-old man who had been shot in his left calf.

The shooting happened in the 1400 block of Marie Foster Street, outside of a lounge there.

“The victims were standing outside the lounge when several shots were fired,” according to Lt. Curtis Muhannad.

Both victims were transported to a Montgomery hospital by ambulance for further treatment.

The shooting is being investigated by the Selma Police Department Major Crimes Unit.
