This month’s rainy weather hasn’t put a damper on Thursday’s rescheduled Alabama River Chili Cookoff.
The competition was originally scheduled for March 12, before incoming thunderstorms forced it to be rescheduled.
However, the move has actually paid off for the event.
Rescheduling of the Alabama Chili Cookoff has allowed the competition to add four additional teams.
“We’re looking forward to seeing everyone,” said cook-off chairwoman Ebony Rose. “The weather has been really nice, so we’re hoping to get some really good weather. Everyone is so excited.”
The weather forecast shows a 50 percent chance for rain Thursday, but organizers are hoping it holds off.
Either way the event will go on rain or shine, Rose said in a previous interview with the Times-Journal.
The cookoff will be held April 2 at 3:30 p.m. on Water Avenue. Participating teams should arrive to set up at 10 a.m. Cooking will begin at 11:30 a.m. The gates will open for the general public at 3:30 p.m. The cost to attend the event will be $5. Children under the age of 8 will get in free.
Rose said the buzz surrounding the event has increased since the revised date was announced. She said people have been expressing their excitement through social media.
“We want everybody in the community to come out,” she said. “We’re going to pretend it’s the same date, and we’re going to come out and have a good time.”
