Obama not taking right steps for military

The announcement of Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl being charged with desertion and misbehavior before the enemy is stunning given the circumstances under which he was released last year.
I say stunning due to the embarrassment it must be for the president and his underlings. Of course, maybe not, they must have known all along it was coming. They are masters at changing the subject and covering their tracks.
All the hype and press of the last captive serviceman in Afghanistan being released was billed as a triumph for the Obama administration. National Security Advisor Susan Rice even appeared on ABC News saying Bergdahl served with “honor and distinction.” President Obama received Bergdahl’s parents in the Rose Garden celebrating the occasion. Bowe’s father, Robert, even spoke a little Arabic and Pashtu or Afghani during the ceremony. That in itself was a shocker to most as to why he did so. Meanwhile, in Afghanistan members of his unit were saying he walked off his post under the cover of darkness.
At the time, questions were raised at the number of high level detainees released from Guantanamo for Bergdahl and by what authority. Bergdahl cost us five Taliban commanders who were taken off the battlefield.
They were transferred to Qatar supposedly under surveillance for a year, but word is they are already trying to reconnect with the Taliban. It is insulting to the men and women who fought taking them off the battlefield to have them released to return at some point to once again kill Americans and Afghans.
In addition to this travesty, six of our own servicemen were killed looking for Bergdahl after he deserted his post and wandered off into the night. He carried with him a compass, a knife, a diary, a camera and some water.
He was captured shortly thereafter by the Taliban although the Army did not classify him a POW. The names of those reported killed while out looking for Bergdahl are Pfc. Matthew Michael Martinek, Staff Sgt. Kurt Robert Curtiss, Staff Sgt. Clayton Bowen, Pfc. Morris Walker, Staff Sgt. Michael Chance Murphrey and Second Lt. Darryn Andrews.
This little intrigue is far from over and only time will tell the outcome. I sincerely hope the military justice system is allowed to pursue unimpeded by this administration to the ultimate conclusion we all have felt was proper.
Perhaps it would not have been so ridiculous had we traded some left over Vietnam draft dodgers who ran off to Canada for Bergdahl. At least, we would have known they would not show up again to fight and kill Americans.
I can also think of several in Washington, DC, and a few in Hollywood who would have been a much better swap than giving up Taliban commanders.
It is heart warming to know that the US policy is to not negotiate with terrorist; except I suppose, when it is expedient for political purposes. There are several words that could describe the Obama administration when it comes to military matters, but I believe “clueless” is most appropriate.
