Bloch Park’s grounds will be filled with eggs and goodies at the city of Selma’s second annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday at 11 a.m.

The event was a collaborative effort of the city of Selma and Leslie Pettway, owner of Pettway’s Party Stop. The hunt is a way for children to participate in Easter festivities, without families having to drive to other cities to take part in Easter events, Pettway said.

“My family and I always traveled to go to other (Easter) events,” she said. “Families won’t have to travel to Montgomery and different places to go to their city-wide Easter egg hunt.”

As with most egg hunts, there will be eggs and a surplus of prizes. Pettway said the prizes will consist of Easter baskets, games and toys.

In addition, the free and family-friendly event is expected to have music and plenty of entertainment.

“Rain or not, we’re going to have it,” said Pettway. “That was one of the issues last year because it rained the day before. A lot of people called thinking we weren’t going to have it. So, we’re going to have it regardless [of rain].”

Just a few miles outside of the Queen City, Orrville is putting on its own Easter egg hunt complete with crafts, stories and an appearance from the Easter bunny Saturday at 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Orrville Community Center.

Egg hunt organizer Wendy Yager said the event would be an excellent source of entertainment for the community.

“Our community has not had one in several years,” she said. “ I thought it would be good for the community to have an egg hunt for the children.”

She said she hopes everyone can attend the event with their families.
