Four of gospel music’s leading ladies will take the stage Saturday night at Tabernacle Church of Praise for “A Night of Jubilee.”

The concert, which features a Grammy Award winning singer, is scheduled for 7 p.m., and admission is free. The doors will open at 6 p.m.

Set to perform are Tasha Cobbs, who recently won a Grammy for her hit song, “Break Every Chain,” and Selma’s own Benita Washington, Kierra Sheard and Marica Chisolm.

Washington is known for winning the first Gospel Dream contest in Atlanta, which led to the release her first album, Hold On, in 2004. The album made Billboard charts in its first week.

“I would consider these particular voices the leading voices of our generation. It is rare that artists of this caliber come to a small city like this,” said Justin Foster, who helped organize the concert. “It is rare that you will find this lineup in a city this small for free.”

The city of Selma is by no means a stranger to gospel music, but Foster wanted to give people a show they would never forget.

“We just wanted to bring something different to the city and give [people] a chance to experience something like this that they wouldn’t normally experience in Selma,” Foster said.

This year has been quite busy for the city, and Foster wanted to continue bringing people together by putting on a concert.

“I feel like a lot has been going on in Selma, and it is just another way for the people in the community to come together for something positive without having limitations by price or not getting to come because they can’t afford it,” Foster said. “It is just something [people] can come together in unity, in love and in peace.”

Foster, who talks to the singers on regular basis, can’t wait to see them perform for Selma.

“I talk to them at least once a week about it, and they’re just really excited about coming,” Foster said.

Each singer will perform their own set, and Foster hopes people leave the gospel concert with lasting memories that will make a difference in their lives.

“They can expect something life changing. I believe that people will leave uplifted and rejuvenated in strength and courage,” Foster said.
