Artists across the Southeast will have the opportunity to have their work on display at the 13th annual ArtsRevive Art Exhibition titled “Alabama Artists Roots and Wings.”
The members only opening reception is Saturday, April 11 at the Carneal Building from 7-9 p.m., but the show will be open free to the public Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. through May 2.
The show will feature 63 artists and 135 works from the more than 280 pieces submitted. A $1,000 best in show prize will be awarded Saturday along with a first, second and third place awards in six different categories.
“Either your roots are still planted here or you have gone somewhere else but your roots are still here,” said Martha Lockett, executive director of ArtsRevive. “The folks that started the show did a great job. It’s considered one of the better shows in the state.”
The art show will showcase three dimensional works, oil, acrylic, mixed media, photography and works on paper.
“There’s some absolutely stunning stuff in there this year,” Lockett said. “It’s fun to see the artists get the recognition they deserve, and it’s fun to see the people in the community look and really be able to appreciate what kind of talent we have here and throughout the state.”
The show takes months to plan Lockett said.
“We’re grateful for the support of the community over the last 13 years. If Selma wouldn’t have supported it, the exhibition wouldn’t have been able to grow into the quality and size it is now,” she said.
Saturday’s reception is open to members only, but memberships are available at the door for $25 a person or $40 for a family.
