Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell will continue her tour around the state Monday in Marion.
Sewell will moderate another “Congress in Your Community” event at the Albert Turner Sr. Courthouse Annex, located at 206 Pickens Street at 10 a.m. The purpose of the meeting is to provide residents an opportunity to express their views on their city and to hear updates from Congress.
“Each year my annual tour serves as a catalyst for meaningful dialogue with my constituents,” Sewell said in a press release. “I look forward to connecting with the residents of the 7th Congressional District to address their concerns and update them on the various legislative initiatives in Congress. I am certain that this year’s tour through the district will continue to help me to better serve the needs of those I’m honored to represent.”
Throughout her tour Sewell dropped by Thomasville, Yellow Bluff, Selma, Greensboro, Hayneville, Eutaw, Greensboro, Montgomery, Reform, Demopolis and Pennington. Last week, she visited Orrville.
Marion Mayor Anthony Long said he likes the idea of Sewell stopping by the city to address any issues or questions from the community. He said he believes there will definitely be questions asked from citizens.
“I think it’s good a Congresswoman takes the time out of her busy schedule to come to local citizens and try to get their idea on what’s going on, and what their problems are,” Long said.
Chief Administrator of the Perry County Commission Tamara Kennie harbors some of the same enthusiasm about Sewell’s visit.
She said it’s a great way for the congresswoman to build a rapport with the residents of Marion.
“I think it’s good she comes and meet the people face to face, so they can recognize who she is,” Kennie said.
“It’s good she comes to converse with them (citizens), so they’ll be aware of any issues concerning our county and city.”
