A local program will provide speakers for almost any event, and the only charge will be a group of eager listeners.
The Chesterfield Club, a local men’s organization founded in 1926 by businessmen and professionals, has implemented a new initiative called the Speaker’s Bureau.
The program will provide free speakers to groups who may need advice on different aspects of business, law and other topics.
The men who are a part of the program are well versed in their chosen fields.
“We’re open to any group that wants someone to come to speak to their young people,” said program coordinator Joseph Bumbrey Sr. “This is a group of young men who are working in various capacities with various backgrounds.”
The bureau is able to provide presentations on topics such as development of a business plan; how to conduct business operations; youth development; employment, resume and interview skill preparation; educational counseling; public health; vision care; legal matters; saving and investment; healthcare; and insurance.
Although, the program may be free of charge, inviting groups and organizations are responsible for securing a location for the event and absorb all cost. In addition, a 14-day notice is needed in advance before the speaking engagement is arranged. The extent of presentation time should be worked out between the organization and the speaker.
“We see there are a lot of people in Selma who don’t understand some of these subjects,” he said. “We want to share our knowledge to further educate people, so when businesses and industries look at Selma they can see people who understand how a business is run.”
Overall, the group wants to extend its hand to the community, Bumbrey said. Organizations that would like to contact the Speaker’s Bureau can do so at 309-6404.
