Edmundite Missions plans on throwing a festival and cookout for the city it serves.

The organization will host its second annual May festival and community cookout May 29 from noon to 3 p.m.

The festival will be held at the Edmundite Center of Hope Lawn, 1107 Griffin Ave. The fun-filled day is free and open to the public.

Edmundite Missions senior program coordinator Sheronda Armstrong said the festival is an great way to meet and greet those active in the organization’s services.

“It’s to bring the community together for a day of meeting those who work at the Edmundite Missions who provide services on a daily basis,” she said.

The Edmundite Missions is a Catholic organization that provides food, shelter and clothing to needy families and individuals in the community and surrounding areas. Armstrong said people can get a better idea of what the organization offers when they attend the festival and cookout.

“People should come out to see what the Center of Hope has to offer on a daily basis,” she said.

“The Center of Hope is here for the community and their needs.”

An introduction to the mission’s works won’t be the only thing offered. Prizes, bikes, scooters, fans and utility bills payments will be raffled.

Attendees will receive a ticket that will enter them in for a chance to win some of those items. Music, games and food will be plentiful at the cookout and festival.

About 900 people took part in last year’s festivities, Armstrong said. Meals of Hope and the Bosco Food Center will be on hand to feed the amount of people who will be in attendance.

The mission is always looking for a way to be a part of the community, Edmundite Missions Director Chad McEachern said.

“So many people in our city suffer from day to day life and living that it’s great to come together as a community and enjoy each other’s company,” McEachern said. “This is one way we can be a joyful community in the city of Selma.”
