Community garden becoming reality

Not so long ago the idea of the Grow Selma community garden was just that — a concept.
That dream is quickly growing into a reality in the westside of Selma.
While the organization still has work to do, which at the forefront includes buying the property for the garden, vegetables are in the ground as of this week. The locally-harvested food will play an important role in Grow Selma’s farm-to-table dinner, which will be held at Spencer Farm in October.
We applaud the work this organization is doing. Many of its members are involved in other community endeavors, on top of busy personal and professional lives, but they make time, including many Saturdays this year, to work in the garden.
Whenever finished, the garden will be a gem in Selma. Until then, Grow Selma continues to teach important lessons about sustainable living to students and the community.
