The Walton Theater along with religious leaders and organizations are hoping one movie will inspire and teach all the value of prayer.

The movie “War Room” will be shown for free at the Walton Theater for religious leaders and clergy members throughout the city. The movie centers on the life of a married couple who deals with struggles in their marriage. The couple looks toward prayer as its salvation.

CeCe Grayson, coordinator of the pre-release screening, said the movie is a great way to promote faith and wellness in the community.

“It shows the power prayer can have in marriages, parenting, career, friendship and every area in our life,” she said. “The thing is to promote prayer. That’s the goal of this is to promote prayer in every area of our lives.”

Through the screening, Grayson hopes religious leaders will spread the word of the movie to others in churches and the community as a whole.

“It’s really about expanding the view of prayer. We want prayer to just flow through Selma and Dallas County,” she said. “With all of the anger, hatred, bitterness and hurt that has flooded our country, we want to spread the word God is still God. He is still supreme and still in charge.”

The Unity and Faith Community Committee is helping to host the screening. Committee member Juanda Maxwell said she’s excited to be a part of spreading the message about faith and prayer.

“This movie, in particular, is teaching the audience how to pray, and how to use prayer as a tool to help every day life issues, and to fight,” she said. “That’s something every pastor and church member needs to know because it’s a hard world out there, but this actually shows you how to pray and have an effective way of introducing prayer in life.”

Maxwell said the movie is a part of an even greater goal, which involves promoting the movie and its message. She said the movie will hopefully unite the city of Selma through faith.

“We’re asking as many community leaders as possible to come out and make reservations,” she said. “We really want a good showing because this is word of mouth to help move this movie. Christian movies are harder to make because they don’t think the audience is there. The more we push the movie, the better it is.”

The pre-release screening, which is only for clergy members and religious leaders, will be held July 14 at 7 p.m. at the Walton Theater.

Individuals are asked to reserve a spot by calling, 505-9315.

The movie will be released to the general public on Aug. 28.
