An upcoming event will allow people to purchase prints of photos taken by a photojournalist during the 1965 Selma to Montgomery march.
From now through July 19, the Indiana Black Expo will provide an opportunity for individuals to bid online for the historic photos captured by the Stephen Somerstein during the Selma to Montgomery march.
“These images are powerful reminders of that historic gathering together of Americans of all races from across the nation in order to dedicate themselves to march in support of the cause of the right of American blacks to exercise their constitutional right to vote,” Somerstein said.
All of the photos that will be auctioned were donated by Somerstein with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the IBE Student Scholarship Fund.
A release by the expo said that Somerstein noticed the work the Indiana Black Expo was doing within the local community there to preserve the importance of the Selma to Montgomery march.
This led him to donate his collection of 35 prints for the auction and scholarship fund.
Somerstein believes this donation will help students with scholarships but also sharing new educational tools about the marches.
The auction will last until Sunday July 19 at 4 p.m.
