Selma City Schools has hired an assistant superintendent to help in carrying out its mission of education.
Kenneth Fair has been on the job since July 1. He will assist Superintendent Angela Mangum in areas such as curriculum, personnel, instruction and more.
A little more than a month in and Fair says he loves his new position.
“It’s exciting. It’s fun,” Fair said. “A typical day for the summer months has pretty much been getting acclimated to the setting here, becoming familiar with principals, workloads and various expectations of the job.”
He said in many ways the position is similar to his former job as principal at the Calhoun School in Lowndes County.
“A lot of what I do now is some of what I did at the school level,” he said. “I’ve worked in different capacities outside of being a principal. I’ve been a career tech director, a community education director. I’ve worked with counselors and all of the above.”
Fair said he hopes to instill the spirit of teamwork and collaboration within the school system. He said he wants to set and an exceptional example for others to follow.
“It’s a new opportunity for me, and an opportunity for Selma City Schools.” he said.” “The vision that’s crafted out before us is plain and clear. It gives everyone an idea of what direction we’re moving in as a school system, and, hopefully, as a city.”
