After two straight losses, the Morgan Academy Senators varsity girls’ volleyball team is back on track.
Morgan (2-2) earned its first road win of the season Monday after beating formerly undefeated Autauga Academy (2-1) 25-20, 17-25, 25-23, 25-16. Head coach Caroline Averitt noticed a complete difference in her players from the team’s last match.
“They stepped on that court and decided they were going to play as a team from the first serve to the last serve and they did,” Averitt said. “They communicated very well. They got their sets up and their hits down. They did the small things tonight.”
Averitt said the play of her senior captain Sarah Combs was outstanding. Combs led a great team defensive effort with several blocks and also served several aces to lead her team to victory.
“I couldn’t have been more proud,” Averitt said. “They were the team that I knew they could be tonight.”
