The Federal Bureau of Investigation has upped the ante for a 43-year-old Selma man that is wanted for allegedly shooting his girlfriend to death in 1995.
According to a press release, the FBI is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Kevin Lamont Carter.
Carter is wanted for capital murder and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
The reward was $25,000, but was doubled Monday. It is unclear why the reward was suddenly increased.
According to an Associated Press story from March 29, 1995, Carter’s girlfriend, Angela Marshall, was 17-years-old when she was shot to death.
Carter allegedly killed Marshall the day after he was released from prison after serving 18 months for being convicted of rape.
According to the FBI, Carter, who was 22-years-old at the time, allegedly drove to Marshall’s home the day after his release and called her to his car.
When she approached him, Carter allegedly shot her multiple times with her infant in the car beside him, according to the 1995 story.
Carter also allegedly sent her threatening letters days before he was release, saying he wanted to hurt her and kill her.
On March 25, 1995, the day of Marshall’s murder, a state arrest warrant was filed for Carter’s arrest for capital murder.
He was indicted by a Dallas County grand jury later that year in September.
A federal arrest warrant was issued on March 25, 2002, on the seventh anniversary of Marshall’s death by the United States District Court Southern District of Alabama after Carter was charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
Carter is described as a black male that is 5-foot 10 inches tall and 220 pounds. According to the FBI he has ties to Fort Wayne, Indiana, Ohio and Florida.
Carter is also known as Kevin Lemont Carter, Kevin L. Carter, Alvin D. Carter, “Little Bit” and “Hawk Dawg.”
