Elmer (Jimmy) Dubose was called home to be with his heavenly father Jesus and his beautiful wife of 64 years, Sylvia on Sept. 14th 2015.
His visitation will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2015, from 5-7 p.m. at Leak Memory Chapel, followed by his Life Celebration Service on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Leak Memory Chapel with the Rev. Mike Northcutt officiating. Military Honors will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
Elmer lived a wonderful life having served nearly 28 years in the USAF for his country. He served in WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War while being the 14th person in history to achieve the highest enlisted rank of Chief Master Sergeant. However, Elmer considered his greatest achievement to be his wonderful wife, Sylvia and his three children, Shirley, Susan and Jerry, whom he loved and provided for throughout his life. Elmer loved the Lord and served him without ceasing in his life, helping others and being utilized as needed by his church, Eastmont Baptist.
A light hearted, fun man Elmer was known as the “coupon bandit,” as he always had a coupon ready for purchases but was always willing to give them to others and also the “frosty man” for he was constantly giving away Wendy’s Frostys to children and adults. A “jack of all trades” do it your selfer, he preferred fixing everything himself if at all possible. Elmer was a lifetime member of VFW post 96 serving as quarter master and also a member of the Air Force Sergeants Association serving as sergeant at arms and treasurer.
Elmer was always available and ready to volunteer to help others in whatever capacity needed, and he did so through many organizations throughout his life. Elmer had an awesome journey, lived, fulfilled, loved and laughed. Survivors include children, Shirley Bowden, Susan Bailey and spouse Richard, Jerry DuBose and spouse Judy; grandchildren, Barrett Bailey, Ryan Bailey and spouse Jacklyn Jeannie Manning; and siblings, Richard DuBose and spouse Yolanda. He was predeceased by grandchild, Jeffrey Manning; and siblings, Elbert DuBose and Louise Wright. Pallbearers will be Richard Bailey, Barrett Bailey, Ryan Bailey, Roger Owens, Ricky Farr and Percy Green. Special thanks to Baptist Hospice, Baptist Hospital, the Air Force Honor Guard and the Montgomery Patriot Guard. Memorials may be made to Baptist Hospice.
