Memorial service for Ret. Col. William Monk Falkenberry, 87, of Anniston will be at 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 20, 2015, at The Church of St. Michael and all Angels Episcopal with the rectors the Rev. Chris Hartley and the Rev. Dr. Lee Shafer officiating. A family burial will follow at Grace Episcopal Church. The family will receive friends from 1:30 in Lagarde Hall at the Church until the service begins. Mr. Falkenberry passed away Thursday, Sept. 17, 2015 at Regional Medical Center in Anniston,.
William Falkenberry was born in Selma. He graduated in 1954 from The Alabama Polytechnic Institute with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering following his service as a U.S. Navy First Class Seaman in WWII and a Second Lieutenant in the Korean War. He retired from his military service as a Colonel from the U.S. Army Reserve. He retired from Alabama Power Company in 1989.
In his 42 years as a resident of Anniston Mr. Falkenberry was very involved with United Way, The Soup Bowl, Kiwanis, The Salvation Army and St. Michael Clinic.
Survivors include his daughter Jean Smith and husband Dan; son, Douglass Falkenberry and wife Damona; sister, Jane Duke and husband Billy; grandchildren: Morgan Loera, Kyle Smith, William Danson Smith, JeanAnn Smith, Ansleigh Falkenberry and Aldyn Falkenberry; great grandchildren: Cali Croom and Kynli Marie; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mr. Falkenberry is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Sandra Falkenberry; brother, Roswell Falkenberry and his wife Eleanor; parents, H.C. and Lucy Falkenberry.
