Keith is entering the class 1A playoffs playing some of its best football of the season.
The Bears (4-6) rolled over Central Hayneville (1-9) Friday night 46-6 behind four rushing touchdowns from Domonique Jones. Jones scored on rushes of 24, 20, 15 and 2 yards as the Bears took a 40-0 halftime lead.
Ja’Quan Lipscomb also added a first half touchdown on a 2-yard rush for the Bears.
Marquez Hatcher intercepted a Hayneville pass and ran it back 60 yards for a touchdown for Keith’s only score of the second half.
“Any way you go into the playoffs, whether you back in or fall in, you’re still in the playoffs, but it really feels good to go in on a win,” said Keith head coach Harry Crum.
The Bears started the season 1-6 but won their last three games to end the regular season. Keith will be tested next week at No. 4 Georgiana in the first round of the 1A playoffs.
On Friday, they showed they might be able to give the Panthers a run next week.
Lipscomb, Craig Carter and Lamar Crumpton added two point conversions as the Bears spread the ball around.
Keith quarterback Brian Crum completed 45 and 30-yard passes to Martavis Hatcher and threw a 30-yard pass to Travis Goldsby for big gains. None of those resulted in scores, but that’s because Jones did most of the scoring on offense.
Crum said Jones entered Friday’s game 1,571 rushing yards and likely had over 150 against Hayneville.
Martavis Hatcher also intercepted two passes for Keith. Tywoine Thomas added 15 tackles for the Bears defensively.
