Morgan Academy trailed 14-0 at halftime, but the senior Senators playing in their final game weren’t willing to quit fighting until the game was through.
“They stepped up and I’m so proud of them for the way that they led our team tonight, this year, just had a never say die attitude,” Morgan head coach Jake Wingo said. “The game was never over.”
The Morgan Academy Senators (5-5) scored four second half touchdowns, falling just short to the Clarke Prep Gators (7-3) 34-28 Friday on the road.
All four of Morgan’s touchdowns were scored by seniors.
“I couldn’t be more proud of the seniors,” Wingo said. “I told them after the game that they made Morgan Academy football matter again, and they’ve rebuilt this program, so I’m very proud of them.”
Jackson Henderson got Morgan on the board in the third quarter. Following a 95-yard kickoff return, Henderson ran a 5-yard touchdown.
Harrison Adams connected with JR Wood for a 20-yard score on a fake field goal to give Morgan its second touchdown of the game.
Adams hit Henderson again on a 70-yard touchdown and Wood added a 7-yard score to give the Senators their fourth and final touchdown of the game.
“A lot of teams could have laid down at halftime and they fought back and had the ball late in the game with a chance to win it and came up a little short,” Wingo said.
