The Queen of Peace Catholic Women’s Club Holiday Bake Sale will be back Saturday with a variety of treats for everyone to enjoy.

The annual sale is a fundraiser for the club, but some might say the people buying the treats are getting the better end of the deal.

“It’s such a variety. From homemade rolls to cookies and candy, just a little bit of everything,” said Andrea Cross, bake sale publicity chair. “And the people that come here just can’t wait to buy because they bought last year and the year before. They know how good it is.”

All of the items are homemade. There will be cakes, pies, preserves, casseroles, soups and much more, along with the White Elephant Sale, which offers Christmas ornaments, crafts and more.

Betty Miller organized this year’s sale and was in charge of the “fall” theme and decorating.

Walking into St. Andrew’s Hall, the room is decorated to match its theme.

Cross said participating in the sale is always exciting and a fun event because of the repeat customers that they have.

“It’s fun because there’s some people that we see here every year, but only at our bake sale,” Cross said. “And we are proud of the fact that they want to come back. We kind of get reacquainted with old friends here at the bake sale.”

The funds raised from the sale go toward he upkeep of the building and the various charity projects that the club has over the year.

“This building is historically significant to the community,” Cross said. “Its home was originally in Cahawba. So we want to preserve it, and that’s why we have to work so hard to get funds to keep it up.”

Ann Jung, a member of the women’s club, said they typically raise around $3,000 from the sale, and recently the money had went to various projects around the house, along with the charity organizations.

“[It’s for the] upkeep of this building,” Jung said. “In the past we’ve done all this new landscaping and had the hall repainted.”

There will also be a raffle for a gift basket from Mark’s Mart and three money prizes valued at $150, $75 and $50. Tickets are $1 a chance, or $5 for six chances and can be purchased during the sale.

“We just hope that they will come and avail themselves of all that we have here. It’s all homemade,” Cross said.

“We just want the community to come and support us.”
