Be patient but persistent on park

Dallas County continues to wait after submitting a proposal to the state of Alabama to take over the operation of Paul Grist State Park.
If the state has no intention of ever reopening the park, it should be a quick and easy decision.
With Dallas County waiting and willing to take over and reopen the park for citizens to enjoy, we hope that decision comes sooner than later.
Dallas County Probate Judge Kim Ballard said it wouldn’t take long for the county to reopen to the park for citizens to use.
“If they gave me a green light today, I could open the park tomorrow,” Ballard said in an interview Tuesday.
We understand the state has some decisions to make about its property still on the grounds. They will no doubt want to make sure every T is crossed and I is dotted before relinquishing control.
However, every day the park is closed is a shame, especially when it could be reopened tomorrow under county control. Paul Grist has been closed for three weeks now during some of the year’s prettiest weather.
We would love for the state to decide to reopen Paul Grist. But the park system says that’s not going to happen. Hopefully, the green light will be given to the county soon. If the process is going to be delayed months, the state should explain to the people what exactly is keeping their park from being opened.
