A Selma man was arrested early Thursday morning for allegedly breaking into a home and holding a woman at knifepoint.
Eighteen-year-old Peter Le’Quah was arrested and charged with first-degree burglary and first-degree assault.
According to Sgt. Evelyn Ghant with the Selma Police Department, officers responded to the 1000 block of Utah Street around 12:35 a.m. Thursday to a burglary in progress.
The female victim told officers that she fell asleep at the dining room table, and when she woke up she felt a pinch on the back of her neck. When she woke up, she saw Le’Quah standing over her with a knife in his hand.
Ghant said the pinch came from the knife Le’Quah put to the back of her neck, but the woman was not injured.
“He took the knife and put it behind her neck, but she didn’t have any injuries where she had to go to the hospital,” Ghant said. “She just felt the pinch on the back of her neck.”
Ghant said Le’Quah got into the home through an open window, and entered with the intention of stealing property and selling it.
“There was a window open, and he climbed through the window,” Ghant said. “They said that he was trying to come in [the home] because he was going to steal some stuff and sell it.”
According to Ghant, the victim’s husband was alerted by a scream.
“She yelled, and he heard her. That’s when he ran in there, and both of them grabbed him and held him down until the police got there,” Ghant said.
“They figured if they let him go [the police] wouldn’t be able to catch him.”
Ghant said someone else in the house called the police.
After being transported to the Selma Police Department for questioning, Le’Quah was booked and taken to the Dallas County Jail.
According to Ghant, he is being held on bonds totaling $265,000.
