Traffic stop for expired tag results in drug arrests

A traffic stop for an expired tag resulted in two drug arrests Tuesday.

A Selma Police Department canine officer made the stop in the 3000 block of Highland Avenue.

According to Lt. Sam Miller with the SPD Criminal Investigations Division, consent to search the vehicle was given.

The driver, Peggy Gray, admitted to the officer that she had marijuana inside her purse, Miller said. A pill bottled that was labeled “Amphetamines” was also inside the purse.

A black backpack was also recovered that had three syringes, a set of scales and several packages of pseudoephedrine tablets.

Gray was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and second-degree possession of marijuana. Her bond was set at $20,000.

A second suspect, Phillip Bryant, was also arrested. Miller said an officer observed Bryan throwing a white plastic bag containing a white powdery substance believed to be methamphetamine.

Bryant was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond is $31,000.
