Campaign helps fund 15 projects in Selma and Dallas County

Finding a means to complete a project that helps people in need is never easy, but the United Way of Selma and Dallas County does a pretty good job of finding ways to fund 12 different non-profit organizations and three projects of its own.

The United Way is just over a month away from closing the books on its campaign for 2015, and everyone that has helped them along the way deserves a pat on the back. So far, they have raised around $246,000, which means they are around $80,000 shy of reaching its goal of surpassing last year’s campaign, which raised more than $300,000.

With plenty of time left to give, we encourage everyone to do what they can to help the United Way help others in need.

The organizations that are funded by the United Way of Selma and Dallas County are the American Red Cross, the YMCA of Selma and Dallas County, SABRA Sanctuary, the Salvation Army, the Bosco Nutrition Center, Special Years Plus, Special Pre-School Program, Cahaba Center, Easter Seal, Selma AIR, Literacy Outreach Program, the Selma Area Food Bank, Tukabatchee Council of the Boy Scouts, South Central Council of the Girls Scouts, the Central Alabama Child Advocacy Center and three of its own programs, Doc in a Bus, HealthLink and Diabetic Monitoring Program.

These organizations depend on the United Way to do what they do, and they do an awful lot in Selma and Dallas County.

There are multiple ways to make donations. Deal Days, which gives $30 to the United Way for each car sold at designated dealerships, is going on, and people can also make direct donations to the United Way.

We should all do our part, no matter how little or big the donation, to help them reach their goal of raising more than $300,000 for their campaign.
