Rep. Sewell makes wager on Bama game

Selma native and U.S. Congresswoman Terri Sewell has made a friendly wager with a colleague from South Carolina on Monday night’s national championship game.

Sewell and Congressman Jeff Duncan, who represents South Carolina’s 3rd District, have bragging rights and some pretty good barbecue on the line.

“Given Alabama’s unparalleled record of 15 national championships, the Crimson Tide is destined to bring home another title in 2016. The Clemson Tigers simply will not be able to hold back Heisman Trophy winner Derrick Henry and the Tide’s superior defense,” Sewell said. “Football and barbecue go hand-in-hand, and Alabama has the best of both. It is too bad that Congressman Duncan and his staff won’t be able to savor Alabama’s delicious ribs. Roll Tide!”

If the University of Alabama wins, Duncan has agreed to wear a houndstooth hat and Alabama necktie for a photo on the steps of the U.S. Capitol and will provide South Carolina barbecue for Sewell and her staff to enjoy.

Should Clemson University pull off the upset, Sewell will treat Duncan and his office to ribs from Tuscaloosa’s Dreamland BBQ and will post for a picture in Clemson garb.

The game will be broadcast starting at 7:30 p.m. central time on ESPN from University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. The Crimson Tide are a 7-point favorite over the Tigers.

The last time Alabama and Clemson played was in 2008. The Crimson Tide won that contest 34-10 to kickoff the 2008 season at the Georgia Dome.
