Selma Police Department investigators have made a third arrest in connection with a string of New Year’s Eve shootings that left two dead and others injured.

On Tuesday, detectives with SPD’s Criminal Investigations Division received information that Clarence Brenson was at a home in the 7000 block of County Road 62 in Sardis.

Authorities went to Sardis and when Brenson saw officers, he ran out the home’s back doors and attempted to escape through a wooded area, according to Lt. Sam Miller.

“Officers made contact with Clarence, and he refused to comply with officer’s commands to show his hands and led officers on a foot pursuit through the woods,” Miller said.

During their search, an elderly neighbor told officers that Brenson was hiding in his house on County Road 444. Officers entered the house and arrested Brenson without further incident, according to Miller.

Brenson was taken to the Dallas County Jail and booked on charges of attempted murder. As of Tuesday, he was being held without bond.

Brenson is the third suspect to be charged in connection with the back-and-forth shootings that left two innocent bystanders, Antoine Stallworth and Mary Whatley, dead and at least two others injured.

Earlier this month, Glentravious Olds was charged with murder and attempted murder, while Frederick Turner was booked for attempted murder.

Officers continue to search for two additional suspects: Alfred Parnell, who is wanted for murder, and Antonio Whatley, who is accused of attempted murder.

Authorities believe the deadly chain of events started Dec. 30, when Parnell’s brother, Eric, was shot in the back in the 2100 block of Church Street. Brenson, Olds, Turner and Whatley all face attempted murder in Parnell’s shooting.

Later that day, Nikki Olds was shot in the arm on Tucker Avenue.

The violence continued on New Year’s Eve when Whatley’s mother, Mary, was shot and killed about 3:30 p.m. leaving her home in the 1600 block of Maple Street in Selmont.

About an hour later, the shooting came back over the bridge to GWC Homes, where Stallworth was fatally shot during a barrage of bullets between Olds and Parnell.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Parnell and Whatley should call the Secret Witness Line at (334) 874-2190 or the Crime Stoppers number at (334) 874-2588 or 1-866-422-7463.

Authorities believe the suspects are still in the Dallas County area.
