Michael Darnell McCall Sr. was a native of Montgomery.

He was the second child born to Adair McCall and the late Lille Pearl Moore McCall. God in his infinite wisdom called Michael home on Saturday, Jan. 23 at 5:25 a.m. The body will lie in state for viewing on Friday, Jan. 29 at Ross Clayton Funeral Home in Montgomery. Services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 30 at 11 a.m. at Mobile Heights Baptist Church, 2012 Mobile Road, Montgomery, AL, the Rev. Filbert Martin, pastor. Pastor John Grayson of Gospel Tabernacle Church, Selma, will be officiating. Melvin Miller Funeral Service, Marion, directing.

Though he was quiet and shy he had a heart of gold. Michael was class of 1977 graduate from Sidney Lanier High School. He served 25 years, five months and four days of selfless dedicated service to the United States Army as a Unit Supply Specialist attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class (E-7). He received numerous awards, badges and medals, such as the Driver Badge with Wheel, Army Lapel Button, Meritorious Service Medal (2nd Award), Army Commendation Medal (4th Award), Army Achievement Medal (4th Award), Army Good Conduct Medal (8th Award), National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award), Southwest Asia Service Medal with three Bronze Service Star (BSS), Non-Commissioned Officer’s Professional, Development Ribbon With Numeral 3, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (3rd award), Kuwait Liberation Medal (SA), Kuwait Liberation Medal (KU), Expert Marksmanship Qualification Badge With Rifle Bar, Expert Marksmanship Qualification Badge With Pistol Bar, Air Assault Badge, and Driver and Mechanic Badge with Driver-M Bar.

A special mother figure, Mrs. Lucy Simms (Manhattan, KS); his ride or die road trip partner, whether he was traveling to and from Kansas or she was traveling to and from Atlanta — Ms. Wanda Tarrance Steele (Atlanta, GA), the mothers’ of his children; Mrs. Melinda Murrell McCoy and Ms. Tandalayo Kidd; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
