Senators’ teams lose in region tournament

Basketball season is officially over at Morgan Academy.
Both Senators teams lost in the first round of the Alabama Independent School Association class 3A, region 2 tournament Thursday at Fort Dale/
Both teams found themselves in early deficits before fighting back to make their games close in the second half.
Morgan Academy’s girls team lost to Escambia 52-47 and the Morgan boys lost to Pike Liberal Arts 59-54.
“Both down big at halftime and neither one of them quit,” said Lee Tate, who coaches both teams. “They scraped and clawed.”

Escambia 52, Morgan 47 (Boys)
Emily Sherrer scored 16 points as Morgan Academy fought back against Escambia Academy Thursday. The Senators trailed 40-15 at halftime but pulled within five late in the game.
“We really played well in the second half,” Tate said.
Natalie Henry scored six points and Anna Gayle Hubbard had five for the Senators (6-13).
Pike Liberal Arts 59, Morgan 54
Morgan Academy trailed 38-23 at halftime, but rallied to within two late in the game Thursday against Pike Liberal Arts. The Senators had three 3-point attempts to try to tie the game in the final minute, but couldn’t get one to fall.
Woodham Kemmer scored 19 points and Sawyer Hopkins had a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Harrison Adams also had six points and seven rebounds.
