The Keith girls’ basketball team ran the table in the Alabama Sports Writers Association rankings, holding the top spot in class 1A all season along.
The newest batch of rankings were released Thursday and Keith sat where it has all season — atop the 1A girls poll.
After winning the 1A championship in February, the Bears were placed on top of the first rankings in December and didn’t move the entire season.
Keith (25-2) remains just ahead of Loachapoka, Decatur Heritage and Spring Garden — three teams they defeated on their title run last season.
The Keith boys (21-6) also remained in place, finishing No. 3 in class 1A. The Bears are behind No. 1 Sacred Heart (22-8) and Georgiana (23-0) in the 1A poll.
Both teams hope that high finishes in the rankings turns into postseason success. Keith’s final regular season game is Thursday against Montgomery Academy.
The Selma girls (22-4) fell out of the rankings this week after being at No. 9 most of the year.
The No. 1 girls’ teams are Hazel Green (7A), Homewood (6A), Wenonah (5A), Deshler (4A), Madison Academy (3A), Red Bay (2A)and Keith (1A).
On the boys’ side, the top ranked teams are Central-Phenix City (7A), Lee-Huntsville (6A), J.O. Johnson (5A), Westminster-Huntsville (4A), Westbrook Christian (3A), Lanett (2A) and Sacred Heart (1A).
