A man has pled guilty in a 2014 house burglary in the Valley Grande area.
Hieu Nguyen pled guilty to burglary first and was sentenced to 20 years in Dallas County Circuit Court. Two other defendants, who allegedly aided Nguyen in the break-in, have not been identified.
“We are going to keep shipping these burglars off to prison for a long time. Citizens should be able to feel and be safe in their homes and businesses,” said district attorney Michael Jackson.
According to the police report, Nguyen knocked on the door of a house on Grand Terrance Drive in Valley Grande around midnight on March 1, 2014. Dung Do, the resident of the house, told the men it was too late for company, but his wife opened the door after they knocked again.
Once the door was open, the report says Nguyen and two other males stormed inside the house held a gun on Do and his wife.
Sgt. John Hatfield with the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department testified that Nguyen placed the victims on the floor and told them if they moved they would be shot.
The items stolen in the burglary include a iPhone 5S, an iPad 4, jewelry, a handbag with debit and credit cards, a watch, a Dell laptop, a 32” inch television and other items, according to the police report.
The report said that when the gunmen went upstairs, Do ran out of the house to try to get help at a neighbor’s house. The neighbor called the police.
In the meantime, Do stated that that the men tried to steal his truck by backing it out of the driveway.
After his arrest, the Do family was able to pick Nyugen out of a photo lineup.
