Morgan tennis opens year

The Morgan Academy tennis team started its season Monday with an impressive showing in Auburn against Lee Scott Academy, Lakeside and Glenwood Academy.
The boys won all six of their singles matches and also won both doubles matches Monday, while the girls won five of their six singles matches and split their doubles matches.
“I was pleased with how it all turned out,” said Morgan tennis coach Baxter Stinson. “They all played really well. That was a good kickoff to the season.”
Morgan’s No. 1 Willis Watt Jones, No. 2 George Jones, No. 3 Mason Perkins, No. 4 Will Brackin, No. 5 Kareem Hammad and No. 6 Taylor Jones all won boys singles matches. The pairings of Jones and Jones and Perkins and Brackin teamed up to win doubles matches.
On the girls’ side, No. 2 Emily Sherrer, No. 3 Sophie Talton, No. 4 Annie Talton, No. 5 Mary Ashlyn Pearce and No. 6 Lilly Youngblood all won singles matches. No. 1 Ellie Adams lost 8-6 in a singles match. Adams and Annie also lost a hard fought doubles match 9-8.
The team will face Fort Dale Feb. 23.
