Selma native Jermaine Marshall has opened a new furniture store with a goal to be the most affordable in town.
The 28-year-old had been selling furniture out of this truck for eight years before he started thinking about opening up his own store, Quality Used Furniture.
“I would sell furniture off of a trailer from the back of my truck in different areas of Alabama. When it rained or bad weather came in, I wouldn’t be able to work,” Marshall said.
A year ago, he realized it was time for him to get a building to sell furniture out of.
From the start, Marshall had one goal in mind.
“I wanted to give people quality furniture at a low, discounted price,” Marshall said. “There are a lot of people on low income who are trying to make a living. So, I decided to bring people furniture that they can afford.”
Marshall offers 10 percent discounts to students, seniors, military personnel, law enforcement officers and nurses. He also offers free delivery to anyone who buys from the store and needs furniture moved in Selma.
“My main thing is to give back to the community. I want families to be able to leave here and still be able to take their family out to eat and take care of their kids,” Marshall said.
His store will carry used and new furniture, air conditioners, space heaters, washers and dryers, refrigerators, stoves, freezers and more.
The store is set to open Tuesday and will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to noon.
The store will be closed on Sundays.
The business is located at 219 Highway 80 East in Selma.
“I want my customers to have the best experience ever. My number one goal is for them to say the Quality Used Furniture is the best place to shop,” Marshall said.
