Over Pilgrimage weekend, residents and visitors may expect to see historic homes and churches.
What they might not expect is to find artists scattered around town painting scenes of the Queen City.
Each year, 25 artists of the Alabama Plein Art Artists (APAA) come to Selma to paint historic homes and landmarks during the annual Pilgrimage for The Selma Art Guild’s Wet Paint Sale.
The sale will be held Saturday, March 19, at the guild gallery, located at 508 Selma Avenue, beginning at 4 p.m.
Guild President Karen Weir said for the artists, painting is a race against the sun.
“They ought to be able to finish a painting in two hours because the sun moves and changes the scene completely,” she said.
Weir said the paintings generally range from $150-$300 but can vary depending on medium and size.
“These are Selma scenes. Every painting has to be related to Selma,” she said. “So they’re not just nice paintings.”
