A 33-year-old Orrville man has been arrested after allegedly attempting to rape a juvenile.
Jeffrey Johnson was arrested Thursday and charged with one count of first-degree attempted rape. He was given a $30,000 bond and has since made bail.
He was brought in by family members to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department after allegedly attempting to rape a female juvenile in Orrville on Wednesday morning.
Capt. Mike Granthum said the juvenile used sharp thinking to avoid an even worse situation.
“She was actually able to record some stuff,” Granthum said. “That actually helped us in gathering information. It made the case a lot simpler.”
Investigators said the suspect is someone the victim was familiar with but not related to.
“All indications lead that she trusted him,” Granthum said. “He tried to make her do stuff that she didn’t want
Granthum said he is proud of the girl for her actions.
“She remained calm,” Granthum said. “She did an excellent job for her age. She listened either in class or somewhere, but she knew exactly what she was doing and she did an outstanding job.”
The girl’s age was not released. The case remains under investigation.
