Kickball league to host first games Sunday

A new kickball league will give families a chance to play on teams together during the summer months.
The “It’s Just Kickball” league will hold its first game Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Selma High School softball field. The kickball league is being organized by Venecia Eaton, the city’s youth and senior coordinator.
“We’ve had a lot of interest and I’m still getting calls now,” Eaton said about the league.
Last year, Eaton tried to get a similar league started, but it never got off the ground. She said having children and adults on the same team will help create more interest this year.
“I think we have a little more organization this year than we did last year,” Eaton said. “Last year the kids were kind of upset that they put more focus on the adult league so this year we are going to focus on both. It’s a family event.”
Eaton said some teams have already been put together, including some from last year’s adult kickball league, but she said many others are looking for a team to join.
“Hopefully, we will have a lot of youth teams out there,” Eaton said. “If not, it’ll be kids and adults on a team together. We just want to have fun and give the kids and families something to do during the summer.”
There is no cost to participate in the kickball league. Anyone that would like to participate is encouraged to be at the Selma High softball field at 2:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Eaton said each team would need at least nine players.
