Concordia College Alabama is hosting a volleyball camp in late June that will give local students a chance to refine their skills.
Concordia volleyball coach Katasha Turner is hosting the camp on June 27-29 for girls in grades fourth through eleventh. Girls ages 9-11 will take part in the camp 9 a.m.-11 a.m., June 28 will be for campers age 12-13 and June 29 will be for campers age 14-17.
“I wanted to do this camp to get more students interested in volleyball around the state and to get the community involved more in volleyball and know a bit more about Concordia College and what we offer,” Turner said.
She said each day of the camp will be a little different. For the younger students, she will focus more on fundamentals like passing, setting and serving. For older students, the camp will also talk about getting ready for college.
Turner said former players and high school coaches will be helping her put the camp on. She also hopes to have some of her current players help out.
The cost for the camp is $25 per camper, which includes lunch and a T-shirt. The camp will be held at the Jenkins Center Gymnasium, located on Concordia’s main campus.
The pre-registration deadline is June 10 and ensures that a child will receive a T-shirt. The final registration deadline is June 20.
Softball tryouts
Concordia College Alabama will hold softball tryouts June 11 at the Sportsplex from 10 a.m. to noon. The tryouts are open to any graduating seniors and college transfers.
